Describe the reasons why you would like to run for the Advisory Board.

I have had the privilege and good fortune to have multiple mentors in my healthcare career. Strong leadership, education and collaboration have been key principles in my growth. Being an active leader in many healthcare associations, I have worked diligently with healthcare professionals that share those beliefs. The future of healthcare and the continuing emergence of supply chain professionals as thought and strategic leaders is a key metric in the success of the Cost, Quality and Outcomes (CQO) movement. Supply Chain’s ability to interface with various departments of a health system, such as IT, revenue cycle, and clinicians to improve outcomes has not always been welcomed. I believe my experience in bringing these groups together in my business life, as well as, my association life will help AHRMM forge new relationships, alliances, and education opportunities to strengthen our value to our membership and to healthcare.

Describe why you are a good candidate for this leadership role.

In the past 30 years, I have had multiple leadership roles with Fortune 500 organizations. I have worked in many different industries and business segments. In these roles I have grown new markets, launched new products, built award winning teams, and learned that my success was a result of the quality of my team members. I have led the transformation of the affiliated Suncoast Chapter to the Diamond affiliated Florida Chapter of AHRMM. The Suncoast Chapter was a central Florida chapter servicing a small percentage of health systems in the state. I worked with leadership to create a statewide chapter that now services 200+ hospitals in Florida. I was an active member with the Florida Chapter of HFMA. The Florida Chapter of HFMA is the largest and most active chapter in the country providing more than 29,000 hours of education per year. I was part of the Education committee and the Chair of IT Forum. I am also active with the South Florida Chapter of HIMSS and work on their Education Committee and Integrate Conference committee. I have been an active member of the Florida Hospital Association, the South Carolina Hospital Association, and the Florida Medical Clinic Foundation of Caring. With the Florida Chapter of AHRMM I have built strategic alliances with FHA, HFMA, SFHHA, and HIMSS. I have also served as a board member on various community organizations; George Rogers Foundation-Columbia, SC, Florida Medical Clinic-Tampa, FL, The Nurturing Center, Columbia, SC, The Centre Club, Tampa, FL.

Describe where you see health care evolving, and what you see supply chain’s role being in those future models.

This is an exciting time for healthcare supply chain. More and more we are seeing supply chain as a strategic partner with healthcare leadership. The days of the “materials manager”, purchasing agent and other stigmas are changing. Supply chain is now part of the collaboration between clinicians, IT, finance and managed care. The days of the C-suite looking to grow revenue has changed to looking at cost control and reducing variation. The impact that supply chain can have on the vision, mission and strategy of a health system is becoming more and more evident across healthcare.

How will your leadership and vision strengthen AHRMM?

In leading the Florida Chapter of AHRMM, our mission has always been to provide relevant education within the state of Florida that aligns with the core values of AHRMM. We embody AHRMM’s mission of education, leadership, and advocacy. Our Board of Directors is a visionary group that excels in their commitment to provide our members with the quality education that helps them grow professionally. We are continuing to explore new innovative ways to communicate and provide content. Our suppliers and providers work closely together with integrity and mutual respect. Our learning and education is built for all our partners and members. Many providers and suppliers don’t have the budgets and financing to experience a national conference or have access to the necessary education for growth and certifications. We expanded our chapter to meet the needs of providers, and help leadership develop talent and future leaders. I have also led strategic partnerships with various organizations within and outside of healthcare to learn how other industries are tackling similar challenges. Strategic alliances, collaboration, and integration across various lines of businesses strengthen our ability to understand our opportunities for growth. Supply chain needs to be well versed in all aspects of a healthcare system to truly impact Cost, Quality and Outcomes.
