The Barcode Dilemma: Improving Barcode Scanning in Healthcare

Speakers:
Cynthia Shumway, Director, Supply Chain Business Applications, Intermountain Health
Beth Wells, Senior Director, Community Engagement GS1 US

Most medical devices now have barcodes carrying the product’s UDI and other important information. Scanning the barcode allows clinicians and supply chain professionals the ability to capture and store critical information that can enhance patient safety and improve operations. However, too often we hear comments such as “the barcodes won’t scan” or “there are too many barcodes on the package, and we don’t know which one to scan” as reasons for not scanning at the point of care. Attend this interactive session to gain insights from a recent study of medical device barcodes scanning practices at Intermountain Health. Learn how providers and suppliers can work together to take advantage of all the benefits scanning can provide.

2:00 – 3:00 p.m. CT
