Overview
The UDI (Unique Device Identifier) system was established by the FDA to adequately identify medical devices. Implementation helps to facilitate the rapid and accurate identification of a device and enables access to other important information pertaining to it. UDI also provides a standard and clear way to document device use in electronic health records, clinical information systems, and registries.
