Description:

The rapid advancement of barcode scanning and RFID technologies coupled with improved interoperability has enabled a new level of data analytics that will impact the entire health care field. The final webinar of our scanning series, Scanning 301 focuses on how automated capture of the UDI at the point of care serves as the basis for improving current operations and predicting which devices will be the most effective for specific patient populations.

The speakers explain how the UDI, coupled with machine learning and artificial intelligence, will help you track devices and implants and understand their impact in ways never thought possible. They provide examples of how information you currently collect can be used to improve operational efficiencies and steps you can take to enhance future potential.

How this session relates to the Cost, Quality, and Outcomes (CQO) Movement: Using scanning and machine learning technologies can improve an organization’s data accuracy which, along with maximizing software functionality, leads to more accurate reports and informed decision making.

Learning Objectives:
  • Explain the relationships between UDI, good data (fully populated, accurate, unburdened by human error), and big data.
  • Describe new technologies that will make it possible to capture all devices, including surgical tray implants and bill-only devices.
  • Identify ways UDI solution capabilities can be expanded to improve operations.
  • Consider how machine learning and AI will augment and enhance data analytics.

Target Audience:

Scanning 301 is directed towards those who have implemented UDI and are looking to maximize the data they are capturing to evaluate utilization, minimize variation, and improve patient outcomes. It is also recommended for those who have not yet implemented scanning, but would like to better understand long-term benefits in order to promote internal UDI initiatives to senior management. IT managers, SC distribution managers and directors, compliance managers and directors; VPs of SC, CNOs, CFOs, and other provider personnel involved in or responsible for the implementation of the FDA UDI program.

Presenters:
  • Mike Nolan — President, Automatic Identification Systems (AIS)
  • Peter Casady — President and CEO, Champion Healthcare Technologies
  • Chris Sullivan — Global Healthcare Practice Lead, Zebra Technologies
